Tinkering

Greetings.

If you accessed this page by directing your browser to http://sonicage.com/btan, you should have seen a “404 Page Not Found” error. This is the result of one of many changes I’ve been making here over the last few days. The proper address for my site is now http://brianjtan.com. I chose this domain after much deliberation so if you don’t like it, you can buy something else for me.

In the meantime, I’ll be tinkering with the infrastructure and design a bit as I try to find new content to post as well. Hopefully I’ll be able to get into the habit of posting regularly too. Anyways, if you have any thoughts or suggestions, leave ‘em in the comments.

On another note, I recently wrote about the Kor One Hydration Vessel. I’ve got 5 unique coupon codes that will score you $5 off the purchase of one. Let me know if you’re interested.

Falbum and K2 integration

For those of you who have tried to use Randombyte’s Falbum plugin with WordPress and the K2 theme know that making it display properly is a little bit tricky.

The official Falbum wiki offered some insight into properly integrating the plugin in K2. However, for a long time now, the fix was geared towards WordPress 2.0.4, Falbum 0.6.6, and K2 0.9. I’ve managed to make the plugin work on my WordPress installation (2.5.1 with Falbum 0.7.1 and K2 v1 RC6 revision 692) with a little experimentation.

Facebook is SO 2006

For a while now, I’ve been hearing and seeing a lot about Twitter in the blogosphere and the internet community in general. I didn’t have a sense of what it was aside from something involving text messaging (SMS – short messaging service). Seeing as my SMS on my prior cell plan was disabled, I never looked into it. Now as a new subscriber to an unlimited SMS plan as well as my never ending quest for distractions, I decided to take Twitter for a spin. The first question that people are quick to ask is: “What is Twitter?” The answer is slightly more complicated, but someone at some point coined the term “micro-blogging” to describe Twitter. and Cats.In general, it’s a different perspective on social networking that we have grown accustomed to with MySpace, Facebook, Friendster and the likes. The general premise is that there are lot of little things we see, hear or do throughout the day that our friends may be interested in, but we wouldn’t necessarily send an email or IM to announce. That’s where Twitter comes in. You submit a 140 character “tweet” via the Twitter website, IM or SMS where your message is then posted and sent to your friends (via SMS if the setting is turned on). WordPress Upgrade

Just finished upgrading WordPress to version 2.5. Probably won’t be too much of a difference around here but I thought I’d mention it. Anyone who is planning on doing any sort of blogging or setting up a website, I strongly recommend checking out WordPress as a platform to build upon. I can’t say enough good things about it, and neither can anyone else.

On an unrelated note, what’s with all the snow lately? It’s supposed to be spring.
