Last night I went and saw The Descent, and have come to terms with the fact that I suck at watching scary movies.
Despite the movie following the S.O.P of any horror/thriller movie, I still found myself with my face buried in my hands at certain times. i still jumped despite music cues and other obvious signs of death and gore lurking around the corner. The movie follows a group of six adventure seeking girlfriends who go on a spelunking trip to help one of the girls regain her confidence a year after her husband and daughter were killed in a car accident. The cave they explore is uncharted and one of the girl’s (named Juno) ego complicates their exit from the subterranean maze where they encounter a band of Gollum-look-alike creatures which proceed to devour the majority of the girls. The film is filled with estrogen charged girly arguments and the weak script made it difficult to watch at times (although the film got good reviews). It was funny to watch the girls get pissed off and fight the creatures off. In the end, I’ve decided that European movies do not compare with the ridiculousness of American films, and that although I am quite ashamed of admitting it, I was screaming like a little girl (on the inside)during this movie…but we’ll keep that between you and me.
In the mean time, I’ll stick to movies I can handle like Talladega Nights and The Lion King. And despite the fact that I am the candy-less kid relative to the movie theatre, I still have a few movies to see.

In Minneapolis, I discovered and had the opportunity to try Coca-Cola’s newest product called Bl?K. This intriguing new product is targeted mainly at all you Starbucks addicts, but it’s not quite coffee. Coke has dubbed this new product a “carbonated fusion beverage“; a blend of premium coffee and cola. Normally, the health freak
in me would not allow me to consume such a beverage. It contradicts my anti-pop (aka soda for you non-midwestern folks) and I rarely drink coffee. So what made me try Bl?K? That’s a question I had to ask myself and sadly I came to the conclusion that I’d given into Coca-Cola’s marketing tactics. The bottle was all pretty-looking but did it justify the $2 per 8 oz. bottle? Not even close. More importantly, the taste was unimpressive. It literally tastes like an even mix of coffee and Coke (it’s made with C2 actually). This drink hasn’t been extensively advertised and the general reaction of the public and the media as been less than stellar, mediocre at best. It’s hard to see this drink taking off and is one of those things that people will end up hating, or not caring about. Why do I like it? I’ll get back to you on that. Until then, if you’re in need of some serious caffeine, Bl?K will be glad to help you out.
If you’ve tried it, what do you think:?:
